#11: No need to wait to try again after a miscarriage
technology and research transforming women’s health and wellness
Hello from HealthyHer!
The World Health Organization currently recommends waiting 6 months after a miscarriage or abortion before trying for another baby. Turns out, this international recommendation is very much not up-to-date and is based on a single study from Latin America conducted in 2005! Luckily, we now have more recent data, which challenges WHO’s guidelines.
In a recent study, a group of Norwegian researchers looked at 49,058 births following a miscarriage and 29,707 following an abortion and found that women do not experience a higher rate of pregnancy complications when conceiving less than 6 months after a pregnancy loss.
The authors believe this shows that women have the freedom to try to conceive sooner after a miscarriage or an abortion if they wish to and urge the WHO to correct their recommendations. Get it together, WHO!
